the 14 schools the modal split before the action week had an average
of 77% non-car usage, while during the thematic week, while playing
the game the average non-car usage grew to 90%. Some schools even
reach a non-car usage of 95% or higher. This meant that around the
school hardly any cars were to be seen in the direct surroundings
of the school.
This was of real great impact. It is very visual for all parents
and makes everybody aware of the fact that an environment without
cars is really an improvement for a safe and environmental friendly
school and neighbourhood.
In total an average of almost 1900 car trips per day has been saved.
The traffic snake has a sticking result. Evaluation by all the
participating schools show very positive reactions. They want to
continue to play the game at least once a year, because the game
has very visible results. The Dutch press was also very enthusiast
